Indian tycoon Ratan Tata Dies

Indian industrialist who transformed the TATA group, Sir Ratan Tata, died at the age of 86 on October 9, 2024. Officials said late Wednesday that he was admitted to the ICU of a hospital in Mumbai due to critical condition.

 

The current chairman of Tata Group and Tata Sons, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, added: "On behalf of the entire Tata family, I extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones."

 

Ratan Tata Sir was India's most internationally recognized business leader. His values and contributions describe him as "an uncommon leader." He was the most powerful businessman in India, and his legacy will inspire many generations.

 

Ratan Tata Sir and his family own less than 1% of the group.

 

 

During his tenure as chairman of Tata Group, the conglomerate achieved new highs, including the acquisition of the UK-based car brand Jaguar and Land Rover, the takeover of Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus, and Tetley, the second largest tea company.

 

It is a loss for the nation, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu paying tribute to the late Chairman of Tata Group, Shri Ratan Tata. Leaders from the opposition, Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, also expressed their condolences and recalled Ratan Tata's immense contributions.

 

In 2008, Sir Ratan Tata received the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award. Before that, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian honor in India, in 2002. In 1961, Ratan Tata joined Tata, where he worked on the shop floor of Tata Steel and later became the chairman of Tata Sons.
